Due Date

Well Baby Bee is quite a tease.  This morning I was awakened with some pain.  I went down stairs to use the restroom and realized I was having contractions.  I called my Dr. and mentioned pain along with bleeding and he said to wait it out and call when they were regular.

Well, they were regular for a couple hours, but not labor contractions.  Just my body practicing.  At my Dr. 's appointment there were no signs of  immediate labor.  No dilation.  So we made an appointment for Monday. 

I have continued to have contractions throughout the day and have been trying to rest as my amniotic fluid is low again.  The pain is stronger than the morning, but I hear I have more pain to look forward to when I am experiencing labor contractions!  Oh my!

So maybe tomorrow, maybe Monday, maybe in a week.  Lord give us patience!

Waiting for Baby Bee

Saturday Mom, Krista and Drew were in cleaning and organizing mode.  We appreciated them coming over and helping set our minds at ease.  Rooms were cleaned and scrubbed and items put together for Baby Bee!  Mom was there all day and we had to drag her away to eat dinner!  Drew and Krista came straight from Las Vegas.  It was quite a party!
Mom and Krista were cleaning machines.  Magic erasers were flying and I believe a toothbrush even came out!


Drew put together many baby essentials!  He got the car seats in and cleaned for Baby Bee.
Sunday Alan and Dean installed a ceiling fan in the Master bedroom to give us some light and circulation.  I am so glad this is done as it took me forever to commit to a fan!  Catherine grilled us a yummy steak dinner and refused to let me work!  I could get used to this!



Monday came the 4th.  We had another stress test and passed with flying colors.  We went to the Roberts for a BBQ, went swimming (yes I braved the pool) and then walked to the beach to watch the fireworks.  My Dad kept a fast pace, but Baby Bee and I kept up!   I thought if walking is supposed to help then this is a test!


NOT PICTURED:  Tuesday Krista and I ran and errand, saw a movie and got pedicures!  Wonderful!  The Roberts also made us dinner and we played a game.  Clearly pregnancy is getting to me because I lost big time!
Wednesday was lunch with Tootsie Pop, Stephanos and my sisters.  Amelia saw me and said my belly was bigger.  This is true!  Can you tell who took the picture below?  Amelia has become quite the photographer!
After lunch I returned a few things and made it for my emergency dentist appointment.  Yes, the day before I chipped a tooth and it was so sharp it would cut my tongue when I talked!  Luckily I found a great dentist to help me on short notice!  After I decided to beat the heat and go to a movie.  I took my girl to a girlie movie:  Monte Carlo.  Pure fluff, but air conditioned and relaxing!  I don't think many movies by myself are in my near future!

39 Weeks

 Today marks our 39th week!  Can't say it's flying by, but I am enjoying feeling her 8 lbs moving and a shaking around in there.  We are getting to see her a lot lately, although she is too big to get good pictures!  Today we saw she has some good hair at the base of her neck.  If only ultrasounds were in color.  But then there wouldn't be the fun surprise of seeing her and having some questions answered!  She is head down, but not in any hurry still!

We went back to Hoag Hospital today for our 2nd Stress Test.  It went great today!  First we sit in a room and they monitor her heart and movements.
 I had to get over myself to post these pictures :) They straps 2 monitors to me.  One measures her heart rate and the other my contractions (which are few and weak). 
 The sound of her heart could lull me to sleep!   In the background are the monitors we can watch.
When we're not watching our girl this is our view.  Newport Beach, boats the ocean.  Not too shabby.  Hopefully this will be our view from our room after delivery!
Mr. B stays with me and we watch our girl get mad at the monitors and kick away.  

After this part we go to a different room and they do an ultrasound.  Today our technician checked her breathing, which was great.  And the best news is that in less than 2 days her amniotic fluid went from low to normal!  6.5 to 11 something (they want it above 8).  I guess rest can change things!

So now we go back in on Monday.  That's right, on the 4th of July.  That's probably good because it will force me to miss the HB 4th of July parade that I would have attempted to go to!

So more resting and drinking and we will be in the clear!

We are so blessed,  but still wondering when we will meet our girl!

38 Weeks and counting

Dean and I went to Doctor's appointment today and then to a stress test for baby.  She was quite the showoff during the test, kicking at the monitors until she wore herself out.  Luckily, her rate stayed where it needed to be the whole time and we passed the first round.

Then we had an ultrasound to check for amniotic fluid because it was low last Friday.  It is still low and has lowered since Friday.  I am at 6.5 and once it hits 5 they admit me to hospital.  SO... I am on couch rest :)  No exercise for me.  And I must drink it up.  I go back for more testing on Thursday.  It probably didn't help that I was at 2 outdoor events this weekend, but now I know to take it easy.  I had to hear this a couple of times because I haven't felt inclined to rest :)

Dr. says baby is quite comfy in the womb and still dilated at 1, which is practically nothing! 

Dean and I are more ready each day.  Baby clothes are washed, nursery ready, house mostly organized, bags packed (as of this morning.  I've been watching too many baby shows where moms go for tests and end up delivering). car seat in car, etc.

Baby Bee has a beautiful brain

The cyst was no longer present today!  We were with technician and then high risk ultrasound doctor for an hour today looking at our baby!  They could no longer find the cyst and all other markers associated with disease were not there either.  So we were told to forget about and prepare for a healthy baby!

They spend a lot of time looking at the heart, which at first caused other concern, but the doctor said he just likes to be thorough and that there were  no concerns.  We really liked both people helping us today and although we are glad to not have to go back, we were thankful for compassionate people!

So Baby Bee's cute face is right under my belly button.  She had her hand up blocking the ultrasound wand.  It is fun to know where she is for the moment!  I felt like she had moved up in the last week and I was right!  It was fun to see her movements as I felt them this time.  She is 1lb 7 ounces.  That explains all the weight gain.  I would post pictures, but we didn't receive a disk this time so we have to scan. 

So today we are counting our blessings.  I am thankful that the Lord protected us from over worry and that our prayers for a disappearing act came true!

Monday

Monday at 1:30 will be our ultrasound with the specialist to check little girls cyst.  We are braining that if it hasn't already, that by that time it will have disappeared!

Worry to Prayer

Today Dean and I went to our doctor's appointment.  We were expecting an easy appointment, as the others had been, but were surprised to hear the words "cyst on the brain."  My heart immediately began to race as I tried to soak in his words of comfort.  Dr. Clayton even made us repeat that there is nothing to worry about and in the 100's of ultrasounds he has reviewed in his career, nothing negative has come out it.  The cysts usually dissolve during the 3rd trimester and many adults are living now with these cysts.  It is part of the extra anxiety that can be caused by more detailed technology.

So, we are waiting for insurance to approve another ultrasound where a specialist will look at the cyst.  In the waiting we pray that the cyst will dissolve and the Lord will protect our little girl. 

"Don't worry."  Is this possible as a mom?  I have already spent much time worrying.  I usually choose to dwell in this worry before offering it to God in prayer.  I feel like I must ponder each detail and think it through before I can let it go.  I am going to challenge myself to turn my thoughts more quickly to Him!

A main way to do this is to stay away from the internet.  I decided to look at one medical website so I could know the facts and name.  It reiterates what my doctor has already said.  If you are curious, you may read below as well.

What is a choroid plexus cyst?
The choroid plexus is the area of the brain that makes the spinal fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal
cord. There are two of these areas in the brain, one on either side. This is not an area of the brain that is
involved in thinking.
Once in a while a cyst forms inside the choroid plexus and is called a “choroid plexus cyst” or a “CP
cyst”. Cysts can be found on one side or on both sides and they come in many different sizes.
A choroid plexus cyst does NOT cause learning problems or mental retardation and are not cancer.
Although it can be scary to hear the two words “cyst” and “brain” in the same sentence, these cysts are
not known to cause any problems for a baby.
How common are these?
Choroid plexus cysts are seen in approximately 1% (1 in 100) of all second or third trimester ultrasounds.
They usually disappear during the third trimester but they don’t always. It doesn’t make any difference if
they disappear or not. These cysts can also be found in adult brains and go unnoticed during our lifetime.
Why is this important?
If mothers have other risk factors, a choroid plexus cyst may suggest that the baby has a higher chance of
having a chromosome change such as Trisomy 18. In cases like this, more testing will be offered to you.
Trisomy 18 is a very serious medical condition caused by an extra copy of chromosome #18. Most babies
born with Trisomy 18 cannot survive long term.

ITS A....

Baby!

Yes, we are still having a baby!  We had our 2nd ultrasound today.  Lots of parts accounted for! Sealed in an envelop is our baby's gender!  So exciting!  I can't wait to look at it, but I will.  We're not sure when, but we will live with the anticipation for a bit. It's going to be fun.

Well, I wish I could report that my symptoms have disappeared, but I can't.  I still have nausea and get some bad headaches.  I need that burst of energy everyone talks about so I can get busy!

Today was definitely encouraging though.  I have struggled with emotions of not feeling connected or able to say I was excited in present moments.  I have always been excited that a baby is coming, but when people ask me in the moment, my gut response is no.  It is difficult when a lot of things associated with being pregnant at this point have not been positive.  I have felt guilty about these feelings and have been encouraged by the women that have related to me.

I do send myself to time out sometimes when I know I am too grumpy to be around others :)  I did this other day.  I told Dean I was being too grumpy so I was sending myself up to my room till I could come out happier!  I am still in my room.

Well folks, I will try to update more regularly.  I have been in a bit of dark hole, but today shed some light and helped remind me there was purpose to all this madness!

Yesterday, on Dean's birthday, we had a Dr,'s appointment.  Everything is still looking great.  All numbers and heart beats are strong!  We will have another ultrasound in 4 weeks which will reveal the gender of our babe!  We celebrated daddy with lunch at Beachcomber, a walk on the beach, movie in 3D, Barnes and Noble browsing and dinner with my parents at Mona Lisa.  It was a fun day!

Today marks 14 weeks and I am still hoping that morning/evening sickness will disappear soon!  Today was one of my roughest days yet.  Splitting head ache, lots of tossing the cookies. My head ache is finally easing up and I am hoping to remove myself from the couch soon! Thank goodness for Friday!

Shopping with the Lord

Our life group has been given an awesome opportunity to adopt a family for Christmas.  The parents are 35 and they have 7 children in their household.  3 have autism.  Their connections vary, but their family is struggling this Christmas. 

We were given a list with everyone's names, ages, gender, sizes and gift wishes.  Under clothes most simply stated warm clothes.  There is something about the idea of warm clothes that gets to me.  This isn't a fade or trend.  It is a physical need.  Dean and I went shopping yesterday to get some of the gifts and tonight our group will gather and finish shopping and wrapping in preparation for tomorrow's delivery.

I have never prayed so much while shopping for Christmas presents.  Our goal was to buy for the 14 year old girl and the 16 year old boy.  I began walking the aisles of Kohl's wondering about styles and colors.  I would go to an item and pray that the Lord would help me to pick something that would make the child happy. 

I love Christmas shopping and the opportunity to particularize the people I love be spending time buying them something they would like.  This was such a challenging trip because all I had were a few words to go on.  So this trip I took the Lord!

This trip also represented what I am experiencing with Baby Bee.  I have read words about Bee's development and seen pictures that may represent him or her, but I don't know my child yet.  I can start buying things that will fit needs, but I won't know what makes Bee smile for a while.

This has my prayers active that the Lord be with Bee.  Thankful that God knows my little one and is taking care of him or her.  It is a phase where Dean and I are just waiting for Bee to grow.  We don't have another Dr. appointment until 1-6-11 and another ultrasound at 20 weeks.  I can not feel Bee yet, but must trust that Bee is being knitted together.  The longing to know my baby is growing and to feel the life stirring!

Tomorrow I will meet the family of 9 that I have been praying and shopping for and see their faces.  I will hope our group has blessed them in some way. And in 28 weeks I will meet Baby Bee I know I will be blessed by this gift God has chosen for me!

Shining a Light on Pregnacy Hysteria

So Friday night I officially had my first emotional breakdown.  I was hanging the garland and lights on the banister as Dean was putting lights on the tree.  I looked over and saw the bright, big lights and started crying.  I don't like those lights.  They're too bright and there are holes.  This is not going to work.

I couldn't stop crying.  Dean went to the store to see if he could find white lights and I muttered as tears streamed down my face while he was gone.  When he returned, I almost burst out laughing at the fact I was crying over lights, deep down, I still really didn't like the lights.

Well, we're keeping the lights this year, but next year it'll be something new. 
I'm definitely feeling challenged that I am not able to do as much or enjoy as much this season.  I am so blessed to have a baby be the reason, but I have high expectations of the Christmas season and don't want to miss out on anything.  I keep telling myself this year will look different, but next year there will be a baby looking at our Christmas tree lights.  There will be a baby to put in the front yard in the manger of our nativity...

Going out on a Ledge

So, I mentioned before that our first baby was going out on the window sill.  If you were around the Bobars last Christmas, you would have met Ralph.  Ralph has a sweet, yet mischievous smile.  He is pink and sparkly and spreads holiday cheer.  Ralph is our Christmas pig.  We bought him last year to decorate our outdoors, however, when we brought him home we realized that we didn't want to stick him out in the cold.  He had a prime spot in our living room up until the week before Christmas.  Dean and I loaded Ralph up for his first trip to snow in Big Bear.  Ralph greeted Krista and Drew with his smile and lit our life while we played games and ate good food.  We showed up to Jen and Straty's for Christmas Eve dinner with Ralph as well.  The next morning he came with us to mom and dads for the annual scavenger hunt.  He had a great day.

Later we received a ransom note with words cut out from magazine clippings saying Ralph had been kidnapped.  Stupidly, I missed this and Dean and I looked at the note and thought it was a strange ad for pork. (Don't have your kidnappers send up the ransom because you may never come home again.)

Well during the summer I stole Ralph from the Hadjiyannis garage sale and have been waiting to share him with the world once again.

But, it's now time for him to serve a greater purpose.  To bring joy to all on busy Magnolia Street.  He will not be alone as he now has Morris the Moose, Peggy the Penguin and __________(we aren't inspired yet) the Deer.  It's a big step for us, but we want to be an example to our baby that when the time comes, we will cut the cord, or at least plug it in elsewhere.

Not so sweet sugar

2nd doctor's appointment was today.  We are only going on people's birthdays.  Today is my sister Krista's birthday!  Happy birthday!  And the next appointment will be on Dean's (January 6th)!

We got a special present of hearing the heartbeat today!  This was actually more special for both Dean and me than the ultrasound, which surprised us!  It's pretty amazing!

Baby is still doing well.  I, however, had a high level of sugar, so now I will take a 3 hour glucose test on Monday.  I thought the 1 hour one wasn't fun!  Diabetes can occur just during pregnancy so this will help see if I need to be worried about gestational diabetes.  If I don't have GD then I am okay.  I actually haven't even been wanting dessert items.  My doctor said it doesn't necessarily have to do with my diet.

No sense worrying until we know for sure!  But please pray that I don't have GD because the treatment wouldn't be fun for neither baby or me.
 
We went and celebrated the heartbeat at Rubys Diner (and the fact that I've managed not to gain weight!!!)  I don't need to yet, so I want to save up all those pounds for later :)  My belly is changing shape though and I ask Dean regularly..does my belly look different? 

He responds with, you look great Babe.  To which I say, no really, does it look different.

He's learning how to walk the line of honesty and flattery!  There should be a book on that!

Well I am to put my first baby out on the window sill.  More on that later...

Alphabet Soup

Yay for Ebay! 
Today I received my winnings.  For 34.99 I received the following Pottery Barn Nursery items:
1.  Crib Bumper (this is all I really needed so the rest is a bonus!)
2.  A Mobile
3.  A Crib ruffle
4.  3 valances.

I saw this bedding and loved the colors.  I am a big fan of sage green and red and it happens to be the colors of our guest room!  I decided to spend a whole evening a couple of weeks ago looking at hundreds of bedding options.  I landed on this.  Thought about it.  Then bid.

So, I have a little time to decorate :), but I couldn't pass up this awesome deal!
